Parent Obligations

Providing the very best Christian education for our children is an expensive venture. Tuition alone does not meet the total cost of educating a student at St. Veronica Catholic School. Many parents dedicate their time to help the school; however, our needs are still not being met. Therefore, you will be required to provide assistance above the established tuition and fees.

All families entering the school community accept the following financial and service obligations:

  • participation in weekly mass or, in the case of non-Catholics, the worship of their religious denomination
  • payment of tuition, registration, and other required fees (e.g., graduation, School Guild, Men's Club, sacramental, Extended Care)
  • support of school fundraising efforts - in particular, but not limited to: Bingo, six hours of mandatory service at the Parish Festival (four for single parent families), generate a minimum of $300 in revenue from Scrip purchases ($200 for single parent families)
  • performance of thirty-five hours of service to the school
  • attendance by at least one parent at in-service meetings, Back-to-School Night, and the Parent-Teacher conference
  • cooperation with all school policies and administrative directives

Service Hours

The objective of service hours is to create a community spirit in the school while providing valuable service thereby indirectly providing financial assistance and generous support. Thirty- five hours of service are required by all families, fifteen for single parent families. Service hours must be completed by April 30. A form will be sent home quarterly for keeping an accurate record of service hours completed. If forms are not returned to school, hours will not be awarded. Failure to complete the required hours of service will result in paying a higher tuition rate (non-participating). Eighth grade families must complete their hours in order for eighth graders to participate in graduation activities. If you are seeking a single parent exception, please contact the principal. Five hours of service are awarded to members of the Parish Council, the Parish Finance Committee, or Liturgy Committee. Any monetary donation may contribute to hours completed. One hour of credit will be awarded for every ten dollars spent. A maximum of fours hours attributed to donations will be allowed. Your active participation is desired more than monetary contributions.

Fundraising Efforts

Bingo
Bingo participation is a requirement for all school parents, irregardless of participating or non-participating status. This participation includes either working on a particular Wednesday or providing a dessert. The Bingo schedule is organized through the school office. If a parent is unable to work on the assigned Wednesday, it is his/her responsibility to find a substitute. Parents failing to work or failing to bring a dessert will be assessed $50. Non-participation in Bingo will result in a $200 assessment fee due immediately. The money realized from Bingo goes directly into the operating budget and school families reap its benefits by lower tuition rates.

Parish Festival
The required hours of service must include a minimum of six hours working at the annual parish festival (four hours for single parent families). If hours at the parish festival are not completed, the service hour requirement is doubled. Any additional hours worked may go towards the service obligation. It is the parent's responsibility to schedule hours and to complete a Festival Participation Record showing the number of hours worked at the festival.

Scrip
St. Veronica Catholic School has a rather extensive scrip program which includes paper scrip (purchased through the school for various local merchants), E-Scrip (a program in affiliation with Safeway), and Community Partners (a program in affiliation with Albertson's). Each family is required to generate a minimum of $300.00 in revenue ($200.00 for single-parent families) from Scrip purchases made between May 1 and April 30 of the following year. Families are encouraged to go above and beyond this minimum requirement and to use Scrip whenever possible. Scrip profits are used to keep tuition affordable. Those who choose not to buy Scrip or who do not fulfill the minimum obligation will be assessed $300.00 and moved to the non-participating tuition category for the subsequent year. Scrip obligations need to be fulfilled by April 30.
